Transcending the Traditional

Alpenglow is unique. We have no walls - our spa is wherever you are. We have no trade secrets - we'll teach you how to do our services. We are convenient, efficient, simple and effective.

We bring our treatmentsdirectly to your home, office, condo, hotel room, group meeting facility or whatever your location you select.

We'll create a private spa retreat to support your individual needs at Alpenhaven, a lovely home surrounded by the mountains of Montana where you can find peace.

We'll also give you a facial on your African safari or a shoulder rub around the campfire. Let Hannah be your ticket to exotic cultures as she creates active, unique travel adventures enhanced with the spiritual attributes of yoga, meditation, massage and meaningful cross-cultural exchanges. How about Yoga sessions at a corporate retreat or a massage in your wall tent at hunting camp?

Our goal is to empower you with knowledge and tools so you can know how it feels, on a daily basis, to be comfortable, relaxed, creative and at peace. We want you to become blissfully involved in the process of integrating pleasure and beneficial habits into your daily acitvities.

With these principles in mind, we transcend the traditional by offering these unique services.

A native Montanan, Hannah Johansen moved to the newly established Big Sky Ski Resort in 1973, where she worked closely with Chet Huntley, former NBC newscaster and founder of the resort.

Chet's vision was to create a place where people could come and renew their spirits in the great outdoors of Montana. In 1982, Hannah furthered this vision by creating Alpenglow Massage where guests, in the magic of the mountain's glow, could renew their spirits on a deeper, more personal level through the practice of yoga and massage.

In 2000, Hannah's business became Alpenglow Traveling Spa, when she took her services on the road to provide on-site massage and yoga/fitness programs to clients in the Big Sky area.

In 2002, Hannah expanded her business to an international level when she created Alpenglow Adventure Spa, combining safe, active adventure trips with yoga/fitness, massage, meditation, and meaningful cross-cultural encounters in the world's most beautiful places.  These adventures have taken Hannah and her guests to the Grand Canyon, southern Utah, British Columbia, Baja, South America, Nepal, India, Thailand, Maldives, Fiji, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia.

In addition to leading her international team of massage therapists and yoga/fitness instructors, Hannah combines her spa, yoga and public speaking skills to design and present various educational programs for convention and corporate activities.

She was invited to be a guest consultant for the Banyon Tree Spas in Phuket, Thailand. She also implemented a massage training program for the Banyon Tree Spas in the Maldives.

Hannah is a creative visionary. Her love of adventure has led her down exciting and sometimes unconventional paths. Honesty, creativity and compassion are Hannah's greatest assests. Her passion is empowering people with knowledge and tools for their well-being.  Through her dedication to teaching peace in the body, she has positively impacted the lives of many.

Meet Our Therapists

Hannah Johansen, President

Alpenglow Health Enterprises, Inc.

Big Sky, Montana

My home is in the mountains of Montana, and I love to travel and participate in spa adventures around the globe. I am the leader of a very talented group of massage and yoga/fitness professionals, and we invite you to partake of our wonderful menu of services and adventure spa programs..

After practicing massage therapy for 23 years, I decided it was time to empower my clients to be more personally involved in their health and well-being.  Realizing that my own yoga practice had become a very effective "massage from the inside out", I began to look at yoga as its own model of bodywork.
I now use massage to assess the physical condition of a body, and then create a personalized yoga/fitness program that more thoroughly addresses these conditions.

Even though the practice of yoga initially teaches us how to be flexible, the ultimate goal is learning how to be free.  Through breath, intention and the yoga posture, we break through physical, mental and emotional blockages.  On the other side of these discomforts are feelings of stillness, peace, focus, certainty, connectedness and love.

My long-time affiliations with Amrit Yoga and Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health have inspired and molded my work to the greatest degree. I am very thankful for the teachings of Yogi Amrit Desai and for the work that he has done to bring the true essence of yoga to the Western World.
